Parking Lot - single channel
digital video (work in progress) ~15 mins.

Parking Lot uses found footage
from YouTube to look at how people appropriate the residual spaces of global
capitalism to create temporary public space. The video presents typologies
of transgressions staged in parking lots of superstores and chains around
the world, from Tesco and Costco to Walmart and Carrefour. While portraying
the inventiveness and creativity of rebellious and joyful acts of reclaiming
space, the video also points to their limits, suggesting the difficulty
of completely overcoming the constraints imposed by the dismal, endlessly
reproduced, anonymous spaces of mass industrial growth, where even individual
expression can be reduced to a series of repeatable actions and reactions.
